School Master’s Retreat

Situated in the heart of the Northumbrian village of Scremerston this charming stone and slate Retreat is set in walled gardens with it’s own courtyard and parking. The cottage is attached to the owner’s house- the School Master’s House built in 1843. This historic village house has been home to generations of School Master’s and Mistresses.

This delightful Retreat cottage for two plus cot is accredited with 4 Stars and the Gold Award from the Visit England Tourist Board. The Retreat is also featured in the, “Premier Cottages” Guide- the finest collection of self catering properties in the UK.

The light and airy open plan ground floor is 30ft in length comprising:

Sitting room is luxurious and  spacious for a couple with 2 large Italian leather sofas, with cosy throws to snuggle up with and a comfy armchair with good lighting to enjoy reading a book or magazine. There is a hi-speed WiFi box and flat screen Smart TV with DVD player. The large coffee table makes the perfect place for guests to enjoy a variety of board games, dominoes and cards. A host of information, magazines and books on Northumberland, the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh are provided as well as an eating out guide and maps with suggested day trips in the local area as recommended by your hosts.

Kitchen/Dining area has a beautiful bay window with French door leading onto your private courtyard. This area faces east so makes a lovely terrace to enjoy breakfast in the sunshine Al Fresco with chairs, table and sun loungers. Inside, the kitchen has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a flagstone floor and French Grey units with solid oak worktops. Integrated appliances include washing machine with dryer, oven with 4 ring electric hob with extractor above, microwave, fridge with ice box freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and filter coffee machine. A French dresser houses houses generous quality utensils/crockery/glassware with everything from a Camembert baker to a picnic hamper complete with wool picnic rug for guests to enjoy on days out!

Upstairs:

Spacious balcony dressing area with wardrobe, chest of drawers, full length mirror, iron and ironing board, dressing table with hair dryer and comfy armchair. There is a chest containing a variety of tog duvets for guest use. Off the balcony into the bedroom area you will find a top quality pocket sprung king-size bed made up in Egyptian cotton bed linen. There are good reading lights on either side of the bed and a Robert’s Digital Radio located on one of the side tables. The balcony and bedroom area have, “Blackout” and light filter Velux blinds to aid a good night’s sleep. An oak door leads into the en suite with rain shower over full length bath, hand wash basin, WC, heated towel rail and electric mains shaver point.

Outside there is private parking for one car and private rear courtyard/garden with outdoor table and chairs and sun loungers. The property is attached to the owner’s home but remains self contained with independent utilities including combi-boiler and full central heating with large column radiators throughout.
